Holsum Dairy Manure Digester Tour

Holsum Dairy DigesterManure digesters produce electricity from methane biogas and, when operated properly, can reduce levels of phosphorus, pathogens and hormones impacting water quality resulting from Wisconsin's increasing numbers of factory farms.  However, the Sierra Club is concerned about the potential for manure digesters to be used to justify the expansion of  factory farms, and about taxpayer subsidies that may be used to support them.  In addition, recent manure digester spills have caused concerns and prompted us to look into best practices that should be employed to protect our water at these facilities.  Join members of Sierra Club's Wisconsin Water Sentinels to learn more about the pros and cons as we tour the Holsum Dairy Manure Digester in Hilbert, Wisconsin.
