Tell Your EMC: Not One More Dollar for Dirty Coal!

Sleeping W_EMC Enemy.jpg

POWER4Georgians, a consortium of four small EMCs in Georgia, was organized by indicted former CEO of the now dismantled Cobb Energy.  Dwight Brown faces charges on 34 counts of theft, rackettering, and intimidating witnesses for his role at Cobb Energy where he earned millions off the backs of Cobb EMC customers.

Today, POWER4Georgians is operated by former Cobb Energy Vice President, and holder of $750k in preffered Cobb Energy stock, Dean Alford.  Dean's company Allied Energy Services- then a wholly owned subsidiary of Cobb Energy, lost $11 million over 5 years, yet won a no-bid contract from POWER4Georgians to develop two $2.1 billion dollar dirty coal-fired power plants in Georgia.

Originally, POWER4Georgians was made up of ten Georgia EMC's, including the two largest in the state.  77% of the consortiums original rate-payer base has abandoned the project due to fears of corruption, changes in the energy market, and a lack of evidence to support the substantial financial of constructing new coal plants.

From 2008-2010 the four remaining EMCs paid the following amounts to POWER4Georgians:

  • Snapping Shoals EMC: $8.35 Million ($90 per member)
  • Central Georgia EMC: $6.28 Million ($123 per member)
  • Washington EMC: $842,000 ($56 per member)
  • Upson EMC: $533,000 ($82 per member)

Snapping Shoals EMC and Central Georgia EMC are, RIGHT NOW, finalizing their budget for investments to POWER4Georgians for 2012.

As a customer-owner of your EMC, you have a right to know where your money is going.

Call your EMC leadership today to tell them "Not One More Dollar on Dirty Coal!"
