Learn More About the Gathering

Fun, Relaxed, Family Friendly Atmosphere! This weekend is a great chance to meet new people, learn about the Virginia's natural landscape and have fun. While we structure the time with hikes, discussions and more you are never required to attend any of the sections. If you would like to sleep-in, start your own discussion group or just relax for an afternoon we encourage everyone to enjoy the weekend their own way. As long as you are respectful of the other campers.

Evening Speaker: ROBERT K. MUSIL, President and CEO of The Rachel Carson Council, Inc., senior fellow at the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies, American University, and author of Rachel Carson and Her Sisters: Extraordinary Women Who Have Shaped America’s Environment and Hope for a Heated Planet. He is the former CEO of the Nobel Peace Prize–winning Physicians for Social Responsibility and an award-winning journalist.

Afternoon Speaker: LT. GOVERNOR RALPH NORTHAM. An Eastern Shore native, Ralph Northam as a Senator carried numerous bills to protect the treasure that is the Chesapeake Bay. He stands strong as an opponent of offshore oil drilling and cast the deciding vote preventing the ban on uranium mining from being lifted. Now as Lt. Governor, he will continue his strong advocacy for developing Virginia's renewable energy resources.

Hiking: This year, our hikes will include a trek to Buzzard Rock learn about the natural flora and fauna in the George Washington National Forest, and for early risers, join a crew for bird watching. Hikes will be led by trained Sierra Club guides. They are open to beginners and experts alike. Outings leader training 101 will be offered on Saturday and First Aid class schedule for Sunday morning. (note: additional cost applies to these trainings - see registration page for details).

Cabin Lodging: The gathering is 3 days and 2 nights. We reserve a campground in the park with cabins or tent camping.

Campaign Briefings: Learn about hot topics in Virginia and what you can do to help.

Music: Friday evening everyone is invited to participate in a special "sing-a-long." Please bring your instruments, songs, and enthusiasm. Saturday night will feature the Gabby Haze Band in the main lodge.
