Raven Cliffs Walk Thru the Wilderness

Join the Sierra Club’s Gwinnett Group and the Wildlands Committee as we hike through one of Georgia’s prime wilderness areas.  Just prior to the hike we will have a brief discussion about the history of wilderness in Georgia, current threats that it is facing, and our vision for the future. Our hike begins as a road near the junction of Dodd and Bear Den Creek in the town of Helen. The trail follows Dodd creek leading up to the falls, and there are also several other water falls on the trail. After the first waterfall, a change in the trees is obvious as we will become surrounded by hardwoods.  The creek this trail happens along creates a soothing sound, and there are some supposedly steep parts however these can be traversed easily by even a beginning hiker.  The special part of the trip is the approach to the falls.  It is an "out and back" trail with a length of about five miles.

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."
