OAK Members Honored as White House Champions of Change
In early March, the White House and US Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell honored 14 Champions of Change for their efforts to engage the next generation of conservationists through outdoor recreation and physical activity. Seven out of the 14 Champs honored were OAK Members!
Congratulations to the following OAK members: Anthony Ciocco of Conservation Legacy, Dr. Benjamin Blonde of Sierra Club, Bill Hodge of The Wilderness Society, Jon Brito of Kupu’s Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps, Na’Taki Osborne Jelks of National Wildlife Federation, Pam Hess of Appalachian Mountain Club, Dr. Stephen Lockhart of NatureBridge, and all the White House Champions.
Interior Secretary Sally Jewell Issues Order on Youth
Secretary Jewell recently announced an Order to implement a Youth Initiative that will connect millions of young people to the outdoors.
Secretary Jewell said, “if Americans are going to continue to have healthy lifestyles, healthy lands and a healthy economy, one of the steps we must take is to bridge the growing divide between young people and nature. Under this order, we are establishing specific goals that the department, as manager of America’s national parks, refuges and other public lands, will meet by working hand in hand with businesses, conservation organizations, Tribes, youth groups and other partners.”
