Dear
Would you like to see an end to plastic shopping bags, often used once then thrown away, littering our environment?
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is required to propose regulations governing the use of disposable bags and present them to the State Legislature by February, 1 2010.
Tell Governor Charlie Crist you want an aggressive plan for reducing plastic shopping bags.
Plastic bags use up natural resources, consume energy to manufacture, create litter, endanger wildlife, add to landfill waste, impact human health and take forever to disappear. Every year more than 500 billion plastic bags are discarded worldwide. Ocean life is choking on our trash.
Progressive preliminary recommendations on disposable bags, including escalating fees and a five year phase out, were recently posted on the DEP website then withdrawn, likely as a result of industry pressure.
It's apparently business as usual in Tallahassee. Tell Governor Charlie Crist you want an aggressive plan for reducing plastic shopping bags.
We have an opportunity this year to dramatically influence the future of recycling in Florida. Tell Governor Charlie Crist to do the right thing, for our families, for our future!
Thank you for your support!
