Last chance to sign the letter to Governor Brewer Arizona is again attacking rooftop solar with a proposal to add new taxes on residents who lease solar panels! Governor Jan Brewer has stated repeatedly that she supports solar. We need to ensure that she backs up her words with action. Please sign the open letter to Governor Brewer: Don't punish residents with high taxes just for going solar! We will be delivering the letter to the Governor this week, so please sign by Wednesday morning! For more information, please contact Sandy Bahr at (602) 253-8633 or sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org. |

Energy Efficiency: A Highlight on Tucson Electric Power This is the final piece in our series to provide information about policies and programs at Arizona’s three largest utilities – Arizona Public Service (APS), Salt River Project (SRP), and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) – that help to reduce energy use. This month the focus is on TEP.
Because TEP is regulated by the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), it must adhere to the requirements of the Arizona Energy Efficiency Standard (EES). As a result of the standard, TEP offers a diversity of programs to help customers save energy and money. In 2013, TEP reported a single-year energy savings of 210,034 MWh. The projected lifetime energy savings from its 2013 programs is 3,809,090 MWh. Environmental benefits realized through these programs are also significant. TEP’s 2013 energy-efficiency programs are estimated to have saved 1.1 billion gallons of water and 4.5 billion pounds of carbon dioxide. It helped reduce air pollution by keeping 5.0 million pounds of sulfur dioxide and 6.1 million pounds of nitrogen oxide out of our air. Thank you to all of the TEP customers who invested in energy efficiency. You are a big part of the solution. Learn more about TEP’s energy-efficiency programs for homes and businesses at https://www.tep.com/efficiency. Reference:

Please Participate in a Public Meeting About I-11 The Arizona and Nevada departments of transportation are hosting three public meetings in order to gather additional feedback about the proposed Interstate 11 and Intermountain West corridor. We encourage you to participate in one of these meetings! The corridor being considered would stretch from Arizona's border with Mexico north to Las Vegas and beyond. Sierra Club has been involved as a stakeholder partner in the planning process, and we have significant concerns as this project has the potential to have huge impacts on environmental resources across much of our state. Please learn more about this project and provide feedback about the potential environmental impacts.
If you are not able to make one of these meetings, you can also participate in a virtual meeting. This virtual meeting will be available from June 18 to July 18. For more information about the project, please visit http://www.i11study.com or contact Sandy Bahr at (602) 253-8633 or sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org. |
