Citizens to Rally for Clean Offshore Energy at New Orleans Hearing

New Orleans -- Citizens from around the Gulf Coast will rally with signs outside of the Interior Department's hearing on offshore energy to show support for clean, renewable energy and call for an end to expanded offshore drilling.

WHO: Citizens from Louisiana, Mississippi and surrounding the Gulf Coast, representatives from Sierra Club and Alaska Wilderness League, local and regional environmental/community organizations

WHAT: Rally for Clean, Safe Energy, Not More Offshore Drilling

WHEN: Wednesday April 8 at 12 Noon CST

WHERE: On Tulane University campus, in front of the Navy Building at the corner of Freret St. and Drive (look for the cannon),  New Orleans, LA

*The New Orleans hearing is the second of four hearings the Interior Department is holding to solicit public input on the future of offshore drilling and energy development.

At the first hearing in Atlantic City on Monday, April 6, Secretary Salazar emphasized the importance of clean energy, pointing out that wind power off the Atlantic coast could replace 3,000 coal plants. The Interior Department also recently released an offshore energy report that underscores the importance of clean energy.

Wednesday's hearing will be followed by events in Anchorage and San Francisco. For more information on the hearings, visit:
