Rhode Island Chapter - Sierra Club

April 20, 2009

Dear Friend,

Wednesday is Earth Day. There are opportunities to get involved all week. Tomorrow is Earth Day Lobby Day from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm at the Rhode Island State House. Wednesday evening is 10 Minutes for Change activist open house at the Sierra Club office where we'll be finishing up our Earth Month mailing. Thursday evening, there is a Potluck for Energy Independence in Warren.
So, grab a friend, get out and get involved!

1) Take Action for Earth Day

RI State HouseTomorrow, scores of Rhode Island environmentalists will be busy in the halls of the Rhode Island State House, advocating for important environmental laws. The Sierra Club will have a table there. Come by, or if you can't make it, send a note to your legislators urging them to support environmental legislation.

2) Potluck for Energy Independence

RI House PartyThe good, ol' fashion potluck dinner is one of the best ways for voters to organize. A local volunteer in Warren is hosting a potluck in her home to talk about how Rhode Islanders can take steps to become more energy independent. Space is limited, so you must RSVP.

3) 10 Minutes for Change?
Grassroots
10 Minutes for Change is a weekly open house for activists every Wednesday at the Sierra Club. If you have 10 minutes or 2 hours to donate to help the Sierra Club get our work done, come on by. We'll have snacks, drinks and things to do. This week, we're finishing a mailing. So, come on by for 10 minutes or half an hour.

4) What are Cool CATs?
Cool Cities
Cool CATs are the Sierra Club's Cool Cities Community Action Teams. Cool Cities or Cool Communities are those local governments that sign on to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Sierra Club Community Action Teams are teams of volunteer activists who work together to build environmental communities by hosting house parties, going door to door with our message, or participating in phone banks.

Get involved in a Cool CAT today!
Thank you for signing up for Cool CATs Weekly. Sierra Club volunteers are working in Newport, North Kingstown and Barrington to make one of those communities the next Cool City or Town. Feel free to contact us if you would like to make your city Cool.

Sincerely,

Chris Wilhite
