 Metolius River

HELP US PROTECT THE METOLIUS RIVER!

The Oregon Legislature is just days away from considering HB 3298: the "Metolius Protection Act of 2009," a Sierra Club supported bill to protect Central Oregon's Metolius River as an "Area of Critical State Concern." This bill would prevent the development of two destination resorts that currently pose a significant threat to the Metolius and its surrounding forests and wildlife. These sprawling resorts would include hundreds of new houses and condominiums that would threaten the groundwater supplies that feed the Metolius River as it mysteriously gushes from the ground at the base of Black Butte, and they would negatively impact world-class fish and wildlife habitat in the Metolius Basin.

The vote on the Metolius Protection Act is TOO CLOSE TO CALL. Your call or letter to your legislators could be the deciding factor! Rather than send a form email, we are asking you to send a personal email to your Legislator or make a call in support of HB 3298. Please take action TODAY!

SOLVE GLOBAL WARMING AT THE STATE CAPITOL!

The Sierra Club is supporting global warming bills in the Oregon State Legislature that would create green jobs in energy efficiency, create cleaner fuels and more efficient vehicles, and reduce global warming pollution from coal-burning power plants and other major sources.

One of our top priorities is SB 80, which would set requirements for how coal-burning utilities and polluting industries will meet Oregon’s greenhouse gas emissions limits over the next decade. Passing SB 80 would be a major step toward addressing global warming pollution in Oregon, but we won’t win without your support during this critical time.
