Sierra Club Praises NHTSA Nominee

Washington, DC: As the White House announces the nomination of David Strickland to head the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Sierra Club issues the following statement from Ann Mesnikoff, Director of Sierra Club's Green Transportation Campaign:

"The Sierra Club welcomes the nomination of David Strickland. Currently Senior Counsel to the Senate Commerce Committee, Mr. Strickland will bring years of experience in vehicle efficiency and safety to the position.  This is a particularly important time to be taking on this role as both NHTSA and the Environmental Protection Agency are working to finalize the most significant increase in fuel economy standards since the original standards in the 1970s and the first ever national greenhouse gas standards for cars and light trucks.

"Mr. Strickland is the right choice to head NHTSA.  We look forward to working with him to make sure that Americans get the efficient and safe vehicles they deserve."
