Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) Transportation Legislation Update
2) EPA under attack
3) CoolCATs Weekly to become Green Routes Weekly
1) Transportation Legislation Update |
March is here, and that means the legislative session is now in full swing. Sierra Club, in conjunction with the Coalition for Transportation Choices, is pursuing an agressive agenda with three bills on each side of the general assembly.
The most consequential bill will establish a trust fund with dedicated revenue for RIPTA that will solve many of Rhode Island's transit funding needs. For more information of the funding bill, click here, and for talking points regarding the other bills click here and here.

2) EPA under attack |
Haley Barbour, Governor of Mississippi, and the National Governor's Association are circulating a letter in support of the Murkowski Amendment which would reverse a decision by the EPA last year that allows for the regulation of green house gases. Congress is going to be taking up the amendment in the next two weeks, and we have to make sure that it is not passed to protect the Clean Air Act and the limited progress we have made in our ability to combat climate change. For more information on this issue, see this blog post.
Tell Governor Carcieri to support the EPA

3) CoolCATs Weekly to become Green Routes Weekly |
Reminder: Given our focus on Transportation, we are rebranding the weekly newsletter to better reflect priorities. Don't be confused. We are the same great Chapter of the the same great organization doing the same great work, and you can still be a Cool CAT.
In case you forgot, Cool CATs are the Sierra Club's Cool Cities Community Action Teams. Cool Cities or Cool Communities are those local governments that sign on to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Sierra Club Community Action Teams are teams of volunteer activists who work together to build environmental communities by hosting house parties, going door to door with our message, or participating in phone banks.

Thank you for signing up for Cool CATs Weekly. You can make your community "Cool" by advocating for renewable power, green buildings and transportation choices. Visit the Cool Cities website for resources and toolkits.
Sincerely,
