John Muir once said, "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Considering that Muir once walked 1,000 miles from Indiana to Florida, he probably knew what he was talking about. But why not find out for yourself? Start by finding free Sierra Club hikes in your area. We lead thousands of hikes every year, so come on out and enjoy spring.
Looking for a nature walk you can do on your own or with a friend? Members of the Sierra Club Trails community have posted hundreds of hikes from all over the country. Join Trails and discover new places to explore and enjoy the planet.
Did you improve your home's energy efficiency last year? Thanks to the federal Recovery Act, you could get a tax credit of up to $1,500. Energy-efficient windows, water heaters, doors, and insulation are some of the upgrades that might qualify. And that deal's good through 2010, by the way.
If you're one of the 130 million Americans still living in an inefficient home, you're missing out on both a tax credit and a lower energy bill. Many home energy-efficiency upgrades will pay for themselves in three years or less -- and then keep delivering savings year after year. That sure beats burning money.

After a yearlong series of drawings, our friends at Honest Tea are giving away one final trip for two with Sierra Club Outings including airfare -- plus a year's supply of organic Honest Tea (total package value of up to $3,250). With summer on the way and over 200 awesome new outings to choose from, this is one opportunity you don't want to miss! The final drawing will be held on March 31, so enter now!
Last week, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter signed into law a bill requiring that 30 percent of the state's electricity be generated from renewable sources by 2020, giving Colorado the highest renewable energy standard in the Mountain West and one of the highest nationally. "This is a huge victory for our coalition efforts," said Colorado Sierra Club organizer Roger Singer.
But, as Sierra Club Chairman Carl Pope noted in his blog yesterday, the coal industry wasted no time before launching a counterattack.
The Sierra Club Foundation is one of nine nonprofits entered in the environmental category of the Members Project from TakePart and American Express. Each week between now and May 24, you can vote for one nonprofit. Whichever one gets the most votes in its category will win $200,000, donated by American Express.
Visit the website to vote and help The Sierra Club Foundation win!
