What's up at the Arizona Corporation Commission?
The Arizona Corporation Commission is engaged in many important activities related to energy efficiency, renewables, and traditional generation of electricity.
In the coming weeks and months they will be looking at "externalities" related to energy generation -- that means the life cycle costs of coal-fired generation, nuclear power, solar energy, and more. How much water each uses and the related costs is just one question to be examined.
The Commission is also considering different financial aspects of renewables and energy efficiency.
If you are interested in what is happening and learning more about how to get involved in various activities, please contact the Sierra Club office at 602-253-8633 or sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org.
Arizona Legislature up to no good
What's the only thing renewable at the Arizona Legislature? Bad energy bills.
The Arizona Legislature is poised to do very little to help promote renewable energy and energy efficiency this session.
It looks as if they will continue some tax credits, but nothing much of substance. They have killed an important bill to provide a new financial mechanism to promote solar installations and energy efficiency measures.
The good news is that the worst of the bad legislation has also been defeated, including a bill to add nuclear power to the definition of renewable energy and another to promote energy parks with small nuclear reactors and huge tax breaks.
