Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) Secretary of Transportation LaHood Visits RI
2) Sierra's Oil Disaster Headquarters
3) Take Action: Host a House Party!
1) Secretary of Transportation LaHood Visits RI |
Applause are in order for Mayor Cicilline's Transit 2020 group for bringing Ray LaHood, Senators Reed and Whitehouse, and RI transportation reform advocates together last week to focus on improving RI's transportation choices. Years of tireless work by the likes our Chapter have finally succeeded in giving primacy to this critical issue, and it looks as if that work is going to pay off with real progress. Here is a projo article detailing the Secretary's visit and an op-ed following it up from the Transit 2020 chairman Ed Cooney.

2) Sierra's Oil Disaster Headquarters |
Understandably, I have been receiving a lot of calls and emails about the oil disaster in the gulf, a lot of questions about what can be done to help. There are many ways to get involved and the place to start is HERE.

3) Host a House Party! |
With the legislative session coming to a halt, the the Chapter's Transportation Choices 2020 program is moving into full community outreach mode. With a little effort and a lot of fun, you can help greatly in our drive to reform transportation in Rhode Island by hosting a green routes house party. Contact me, abel.collins@sierraclub.org, or go to the Chapter website if you're interested.

Thank you for signing up for Cool CATs Weekly. You can make your community "Cool" by advocating for renewable power, green buildings and transportation choices. Visit the Cool Cities website for resources and toolkits.
Sincerely,
Abel G. Collins Sierra Club Rhode Island Chapter
P.S.- Thank you to all the well wishers on the occasion of my marriage and honeymoon last week. It was a brief and wonderful respite, and I am happy to be back with my shoulder to the grindstone.
