Protect Public Lands! Comment on the SunZia Transmission Project The San Pedro River. Aravaipa Canyon. Wilderness. Water. Wildlife. These are resources valued highly by many of us. But a proposed project, if not sited properly, threatens each of these important resources. We need your help to ensure that it doesn't. The Bureau of Land Management is currently determining the appropriate location for the SunZia Transmission Project, which will carry electricity from New Mexico to Arizona. Some of the proposed routes follow transportation or existing transmission corridors. Others will cut through sensitive lands, including the San Pedro River Valley and the Aravaipa Creek watershed, negatively affecting the wildlife, watershed, wilderness values, and recreation. Help protect our important public lands by commenting today! Questions? For more information, contact Sandy Bahr at (602) 253-8633 or sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org. |

Arizona Corporation Commission The Arizona Corporation Commission continues to look at several important issues including so-called externalities associated with electricity generation. Air quality, use of water and water quality, and public health and mortality are all considered externalities. Now the Commission is seeking ways to evaluate the costs of these relative to coal, nuclear, solar, wind, and geothermal, as well as energy efficiency. This is an important step in the right direction to ensure that the real life-cycle costs of energy production are evaluated and incorporated into rates and policy making. Stay tuned for more information on this and how you can get involved. |
