1) Take Action: Ask Congress to End Our Oil AddictionPhoto by Jordan Macha
The BP oil disaster in the Gulf is a tragic reminder of our addiction to oil. We can eliminate our dependence on oil by making advanced vehicles that run on clean alternative fuels and providing transportation choices that eliminate the need to drive and make our communities more convenient.

2) Take Action: Say No to the Tar Sands PipelinePipeline
Even as the BP disaster continues, the Department of State is considering a plan for a massive new pipeline that would carry toxic tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada to Houston, Texas. This would be the third and largest dedicated tar sands pipeline and would deliver 900,000 barrels a day of oil. At a time when our country should be heeding the warnings of the BP disaster to end our dependence on fossil fuels, building a new oil pipeline is a poor decision.

3) Update: BP Disaster Image Credit Julie Dermansky
Day 57 and oil is still spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. This week much of the action will be on Capitol Hill. There are two hearings today, one in the House with executives of the five major oil companies and one in the Senate looking at the possible health effects of the BP Disaster. Thursday BP CEO Tony Hayward faces a House subcommittee.

The President too will be talking about the disaster and our nation’s energy problems tonight in his first ever Oval Office Address. During President Obama's address, Michael Brune will be commenting on the speech with other experts LIVE on Grist. Tune in here at 8 EST tonight!
