Veterans, Unions, and Conservationists Respond to BP Disaster, Unite for Energy Independence with 10,000 American Flags at the Washington Monument 

 Groups will Hold Freedom From Oil Press Conference

WHAT: 10,000 American flags planted on the National Mall to call for Freedom From Oil with remarks by speakers from national security, labor, and environmental communities. Press conference on the National Mall to address the BP disaster and call on President Obama to end America's dependence on oil. Backdrop will include American flags planted on behalf of citizens who have signed a petition to President Obama.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. EST

WHERE: National Mall, bordered by 14th Street NW, Constitution Avenue NW, 15th Street NW, and Madison Drive NW: Map

VISUALS: 10,000 American Flags spelling out the words "Freedom from Oil" will be planted on the National Mall with the Washington Monument in the background. The flags represent thousands of people who took an online action calling on President Obama to move America beyond oil dependence over the next 20 years.

The Operation Free veterans' bus will also be at the site.
