"Six times, we've had union drives at Massey. All six failed and part of the reason is they know that we care about them."

--Don Blankenship, CEO of Massey Energy

1) Take Action: Reform Big Oil
Cleaning up and properly regulating the oil industry to ensure that a disaster the magnitude of the Gulf spill doesn't happen again is no easy task. But the CLEAR Act includes many provisions that can help us get there, including increased oversight and safety measures for offshore operations; Gulf Coast restoration; and full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The Act also includes an unlimited liability cap to hold the oil industry responsible for its actions.

2) Take Action: Support Electric Vehicles electric car
Each day we send more than $1 billion overseas to pay for oil. Electric vehicles can significantly reduce our dependence on oil and cut global warming pollution. The Senate is considering legislation to rapidly introduce electric vehicles into our fleet. Please ask your Senator to help end our dependence on oil by co-sponsoring S. 3495, the Promoting Electric Vehicles Act of 2010.

3) Oil: BP Disaster Not Lone Event offshore oil
An examination of federal records has confirmed that the BP oil disaster is not a fluke occurrence. In fact a string of oil spills over previous years from several offshore operations has released huge amounts of oil into the ocean -- twice as much oil as spewed out of the Exxon Valdez.

This oil has killed wildlife and ruined beaches as far away as Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula; all the more reason to move our country beyond oil.

4) Polar Bears: Good News polar bear
A federal court has halted oil and gas activity in the Chukchi Sea off the north coast of Alaska. Often called the polar bear sea, the area is home the endangered animals, as well as sensitive populations of bowhead whales and other unique wildlife.

The bounty of the Chukchi Sea is at the heart of the subsistence culture practiced by native Inupiat communities.
