Green Building Tour a Success! On Tuesday, July 27, over 40 people participated in our first Green Building Tour. Thank you to everyone who came! The event began with a tour and discussion of the Phoenix Convention Center, which has incorporated a wealth of green building ideas and technology and is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver certified. We then ventured over to the Phoenix Public Market for delicious local snacks, a presentation on the City of Phoenix's "Energize Phoenix" project, and a discussion of the market's green initiatives and commitment to supporting locally-grown and produced food. Special thanks go to the City of Phoenix, staff at the Phoenix Convention Center, and the Phoenix Public Market for making this event so successful. Learn about the initiatives of each of these by clicking the links above. Interested in participating in future green-building events? Join our Cool Codes Town Hall (see below) or contact Tiffany Sprague at (602) 253-9140 or tiffany.sprague@sierraclub.org for more information. |

Bright Tucson Community Solar Program The Arizona Corporation Commission recently approved Tucson Electric Power's (TEP's) Bright Tucson Community Solar Program. TEP customers will be able to purchase shares of solar energy for about $3 per month. The electricity will be generated by several local photovoltaic (PV) systems, including one that is scheduled to be built later this year at the University of Arizona's Science and Technology Park. The program will help TEP customers utilize clean energy and reduce their carbon footprint without a large upfront cost. This is an exciting step in the right direction! Click this link for more information about the program. |

Cool Codes Need Your Support Save the date for our Cool Codes Town Hall on September 28! Buildings are tremendous energy hogs. They account for nearly 70% of electricity use in the U.S. and almost 40% of our carbon dioxide emissions. Needless to say, making buildings more energy efficient is a key solution toward curbing global climate change. In October of this year, cities will have the chance to vote for this change at the International Code Council (ICC) conference. Please help encourage your city to send representatives to this important event! Every vote counts and is a necessary step toward improving our building codes. Learn more about green buildings and cool codes at our Cool Codes Town Hall to be held on Tuesday, September 28!
