Sierra Club activist Ana Elisa Peréz Quintero is one of only six young people to receive this year's distinguished Brower Youth Award. As a member of the Sierra Club's Puerto Rico Chapter, 20-year-old Ana Elisa has been a community leader in the fight to preserve the island's beautiful Northeast Ecological Corridor, a 3,000-acre stretch that is home to 40 endemic and threatened species, including the leatherback sea turtle.

Volunteers from the New Jersey Sierra Club teamed up with Princeton University undergrads last month to clean up two stretches of the D&R Canal near Princeton.
Most of the canal system, built in the 1830s, was designated a New Jersey State Park in 1974. The Club's Water Sentinels program donated T-shirts, mesh bags, and vulcanized gloves and liners, as volunteers used canoes to haul an estimated 820 pounds of trash and more than 1,200 pounds of recyclables out of the canal.
