Your Voice Needed for Cleaner Vehicles Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation announced a proposal to set the first-ever fuel efficiency and greenhouse standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, calling for a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from heavy trucks to start in model years 2014-2018. This first-ever EPA proposal for fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas standards for trucks can reduce global warming pollution and cut our dependence on oil while saving dollars at the pump. But with the Clean Air Act and EPA authority under attack, we need to show strong public support for EPA to take action on global warming. EPA is holding two public hearings on these proposed vehicle rules on Nov. 15th in Chicago and Nov. 18th in Boston. If you're interested in testifying at the hearings or helping get people out to testify, contact Sierra Club Green Transportation Organizer Rachel Butler. Rachel.Butler@sierraclub.org. |
Global Warming Law Survives Election California's global warming law survived Prop 23 on the ballot yesterday. Proposition 23 would have killed the state's landmark climate legislation, but voters saw through the smokescreen around it. Big Oil had been pouring millions into the effort to repeal the law.
