1) Take Action: Speak Out against High Carbon Fuels After dumping oil in our rivers and oceans and congratulating themselves on defeating comprehensive climate legislation, the fossil fuels industry is doing everything it can to get government backing to bring even dirtier fuels into the U.S. In the months and years ahead, Congress will be a key battleground in the fight to stop federal support for the dirty and destructive use of tar sands, oil shale, and liquid coal. Urge your representative to stand firm against toxic, high carbon fuels.

2) Take Action: Protect the Gray Wolf The Endangered Species Act is one of our most cherished and respected environmental laws. Its power lies in the independent, scientific consultation at its heart. It's not the role of Congress to decide which species should receive protection and which shouldn't. But some legislators are pushing a bill during the lame duck session that would remove the gray wolf from protections under the Endangered Species Act. 3) Coal: Winning in the West From Oregon, down to Los Angeles, California to Arizona the West is winning against coal. With the recent announcement that all of the coal plants in the Denver metro area will be retired by 2017, 10% of the western coal fleet is on its way out. In its place are a growing number of clean energy and energy savings projects. Learn more about coal near you www.sierraclub.org/coal.
