Dear
Fellow Sierran
This is a copy of the weekly newsletter that I send out to those who want it. If you're interested in receiving these, you can sign up here. In CoolCATs, I typically highlight RI Chapter and pertinent national activities as well as news related to our transportation reform project and volunteer opportunities. Enjoy!
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) A New Year and the Resolve to Meet New Challenges
2) From No Impact to a Positive Impact
3) A Message Regarding Snow
1) A New Year and the Resolve to Meet New Challenges
|
Happy 2011! I hope it finds you well. I've made a resolution to renew my commitment to the environment, and I hope you'll join me. Of course, it's easier said than done. However, here's a challenge coming by way of YES! magazine that might make it easier, No Impact Week.
Check it out and let me know if you're interested in starting a Sierra Club RI team. It's based on Colin Beavan's experiment to try to live in New York City with no environmental impact for a year. If he can do it, we can. One of the elements of the challenge is to volunteer time to a volunteer cause, something you can do this Saturday by coming to our year end retreat and hike. RSVP here!

2) From No Impact to Positive Impact
|
Though it'd be nice for all of us just to get to the point where we're not harming the environment for one week, we clearly need to do more. We need to be improving our environment and healing the damage done. If you want to take that next step, Sierra Club RI wants to offer you that opportunity by joining the executive committee, becoming our Chapter Treasurer, or by taking another volunteer leadership role. Contact me, abel.collins@sierraclub.org, for more information.

3) A Message Regarding Snow
|
Eugenia Marks who works for the Audubon Society and serves on the working group of the Coalition for Transportation Choices with me penned this nice letter to the editor in the Providence Journal. With the snowy season here, we need to make sure pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders can still safely use our streets.
