Sierra Club Co-Hosts Premiere of Revenge of the Electric Car at Tribeca Film Festival
Sierra Club Go Electric Campaign working with acclaimed director to promote electric vehicles that reduce emissions and our dependence on oil, create American jobs

New York, NY – The Sierra Club is proud to co-host the premiere of the Revenge of the Electric Car at the Tribeca Film Festival tonight, on Earth Day, April 22nd at 6:30 PM ET.

The film, by acclaimed director Chris Paine (Who Killed the Electric Car?), goes behind the closed doors of Nissan, GM and Tesla Motors to tell the story of the global resurgence of electric cars. Paine and his crew chronicle the high stakes race among Nissan, General Motors, and Tesla Motors to produce the best new electric vehicles. The film will open in theaters nationwide later this year.

To help end America’s dangerous addiction to oil, the Sierra Club has launched a national campaign called Go Electric to promote electric vehicles just as new models hit the road. Plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) like those in the film, which require no gasoline and emit no pollution from their tailpipes, present a critical opportunity to slash pollution, reduce our dependence on oil, create American jobs and strengthen our national security.

Statement from Gina Coplon-Newfield, Sierra Club’s Go Electric Campaign Director:

“Sierra Club is thrilled to co-host tonight’s premiere of Revenge of the Electric Car at Tribeca Film Festival. This exciting new film offers a terrific opportunity to show Americans that the future is here with electric vehicles, and is a great way for us to celebrate Earth Day.

“Our dangerous addiction to oil is bad for our economy, our national security and our health – switching to electric vehicles will be a great leap towards true energy independence, more American jobs and less pollution in our air.

“Sierra Club’s Go Electric campaign is working to increase awareness among consumers across the country about the broad benefits of electric vehicles and to advocate for federal, state, local and utility policies that will help the nation Go Electric.

“We look forward to reaching out to our 1.4 million members and supporters, as well as the general public about opportunities to see Revenge of the Electric Car in theaters nationwide later this year.”
