The Executive Committee has numerous ideas for fundraising; we are in need of a person who would be willing to organize such events. Experience helpful; enthusiasm a necessity. Effort to prevent construction of a coal waste landfill
Labadie Environmental Organization (LEO) is asking the metro St. Louis area of concerned citizens to tell the Franklin County Commission that no one wants a coal waste landfill in the Missouri River floodplain in Labadie, MO. The Commission is currently deciding whether or not to change the zoning code to allow coal waste landfills and under what conditions. It has been over a year of contentious hearings with hundreds of people turning out to provide input. The majority are asking the Commission to defend the code as it is now, with no code changes. The most egregious location would be in the wetlands and floodway of the Missouri River. This is exactly where Ameren Missouri wants to place its 400-1000 acre toxic coal waste landfill. Coal waste contains heavy metals like arsenic, lead, mercury and cancer causing hexavalent chromium. Sierra Club has partnered with LEO over the past year on this issue.
Take action today and print off a sheet of LEO postcards to send to the County Commission. Print front and back on same sheet, sign and send. Each download makes 4 cards already addressed and with key statements. Add your own comments if you would like and share the extra three postcard with friends.
