Speak out to stop clearcutting in CA! |
Dear
The west slope of the Sierra Nevada is an amazing area, home to such iconic natural beauty as Yosemite and Mt. Lassen. But right now, Sierra Pacific Industry is aggressively clearcutting near these areas across the west slope at an unprecedented rate, threatening California's forests, rivers and fisheries.
Please join the call to Governor Brown to save California's forests, rivers and fisheries by stopping clearcutting.
Recently, the Sacramento Bee ran a front-page story1 about how clearcutting by Sierra Pacific Industries in Battle Creek near Lassen National Park is threatening a $128 million salmon and steelhead restoration project, the largest of its kind in the nation. Battle Creek, near Mount Lassen, is one of the largest tributaries of the Sacramento River and one of the few places left for wild run salmon.
These waterways are essential to salmon recovery efforts, the fishing economy and as the source of two-thirds of California's drinking water. Governor Brown pledged to protect California's fish by limiting sediment and other runoff2. We need him to stick to this pledge and prioritize protecting these waterways and forests before it is too late.
The state Natural Resources Agency has announced that it is conducting an assessment of the impacts of logging practices on Battle Creek. This is a great opportunity to protect our state’s forests, rivers and wildlife from clearcutting.
Please take a moment today to contact Governor Brown and Resource Secretary Laird and demand an end to clear cutting in California.
Thank you for helping to protect our state’s forests, rivers and wildlife.
Sincerely,
Sarah Matsumoto
