Save the Clean Water Act from attack by gas drillers! |
Dear
Don't let energy companies dictate environmental policy!
As you may have read in the newspapers, Chesapeake Energy Corp. is trying to exercise its political muscle, telling landowners that their gas royalty payments are being delayed because the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is not issuing permits fast enough for Chesapeake.
Chesapeake Energy has proposed hundreds of miles of Marcellus gas pipelines, which would cross Pennsylvania's rivers and streams. Chesapeake is asking 17,000 landowners to write their U.S. representatives to change the Clean Water Act requirements that stream crossings need permits and that extensive pipelines, which can cross hundreds of streams and wetlands, must be reviewed for environmental impact.
The Clean Water Act was designed to protect our rivers and streams from pollution and sediment runoff.
Chesapeake Energy is complaining that Clean Water Act review slows down their pipeline projects. Chesapeake wants to use this delay to blame the Corps of Engineers for bureaucratic meddling and to enlist landowners to change the Clean Water Act.
We must not let that happen. ACT NOW!
Thank you for your support.
