Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) Fighting for Transit, September 20th
2) Moving Planet, the 24th
3) Bike-Walk Summit 2011, October 7th
1) Fighting for Transit
|
We've been talking for years about the threat to public transit posed by our state leaders' failure to provide adequate funding. Sadly, the problem has grown into a national one as well. House Republicans are proposing to drastically reduce transportation funding and transit funding in particular. On September 20, protests against these proposed cuts will be happening around the country. Can you be a part of the protest in Providence (10:00am in Kennedy Plaza)? If not, can you at least wear red on that day to show your solidarity?

2) Moving Planet
|
We're gearing up for what is going to be a fantastic Moving Planet event in Woonsocket. You can RSVP here, or on the Facebook page, either way be sure to check in on the website for updates. In addition to talking about transportation reform, we'll be focusing on the drive to create a national park centered around the Blackstone River. It doesn't get much more Sierra Club than that.
|
3) Bike-Walk Summit 2011
|
The transportation themed fun doesn't stop at the end of September. On October 7th, the East Coast Greenway Alliance will again be putting on the New England Bike-Walk Summit. I was able to attend last year, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in promoting walkability and bikeability in their community. I hope to see you there.
