The political boondoggle that
could bankrupt our state!
Public forum on I-73 Friday, September 16 at 1:00 pm
Members of the Pee Dee and Winyah Groups -- now is your turn to become activists! This issue is of great importance to your area -- please be present, and if you can, speak out against this interstate.
Please let these folks hear from the Sierra Club -- speak out against I-73!
You do not have to sign up to attend or speak at the forum, however, it helps us plan.
Here are the details:
WHAT: NESA, the Northeastern
Strategic Alliance, is holding a public forum on 1-73.
WHEN: Friday, September 16 at 1:00 pm
WHERE: Francis Marion University, Lee
Nursing Building Auditorium (map)
QUESTIONS: Contact Susan
Corbett, Chair,
S.C. Chapter at (803) 609-6343.
NESA is the mouthpiece for the Horry and Pee Dee powerbrokers that support I-73 for their own self interests without regard to the fiscal consequences it will have on our state. This is your opportunity to question Sen. Hugh Leatherman, Doug Wendel and Danny Isaacs on their fiscally irresponsible support of I-73.
Tell NESA NO to the I-73/I-95 interchange in Dillon County, the "interchange to nowhere."
It's a boondoggle. SCDOT can't pay its bill -- it's broke, but that didn't stop SCDOT Chair Danny Isaac from proposing a $344 million bond issue with $105 million going to the I-73 "interchange to nowhere." The bond proposal would further increase SCDOT's service debt by $30 million.
NESA is an economic development engine that supports an interstate that has no funding sources and at a cost of $2.4 billion is twice SCDOT's 2011/2012 budget. Its Board consists of the power elite who put their self-interests before their responsibility to taxpayers.
This could be your first and only chance . . . Mark your calendar today!
NESA Board members include: Sen. Hugh Leatherman, Sen. Yancey McGill, Leroy Nettles - the Pee Dee Elect. Coop, Jim Brogdon - Santee Cooper, Fred Carter - Francis Marion Univ., Pat Howle - Horry Electric Coop, Billy Alford - A&I Restoration, Danny Isaac - Chair SCDOT Commission, Frank Willis - Willis Consulting, Rep. Billy Witherspoon and Doug Wendel - consultant to Burroughs & Chapin.
