HOUSE GOP HOLDS TAXPAYERS AND WORKERS HOSTAGE
Hijacks Worker Tax Cuts to Force Big Oil Agenda
Washington, D.C. Today the leaders of the GOP, Senate Minority Leader McConnell and Speaker of the House John Boehner, hijacked the Payroll Tax Credit Bill, which includes much needed tax cuts for struggling workers and families in order to force a decision the dirty and dangerous Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.
In response, a coalition including Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, Labor Network for Sustainability, and Public Citizen issued the following statement,
The Grand Oil Party is stooping to a new low today. Millions of struggling American workers and families are depending on these critical tax cuts to help them through the New Year, and this ploy by Big Oil's cronies in the House is an insult against working families.
If Congress does not allow adequate time for environmental review and public input, the State Department will have no choice but to reject the permit.
The Senate must reject this effort to hijack the Payroll Tax Credit Bill, and the President must reject the dirty, dangerous and unnecessary Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.
