Take Action For Clean Air And Clean Energy In Connecticut |
We have a historic
opportunity to retire the 55 year-old Bridgeport coal-fired power plant, the
last of its kind in Connecticut!
Last week, the Clean Air Act operating permit for the dirty plant expired. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is now reviewing the plant's permit, and we have until this Monday to request a public hearing. Let's make sure the next five years are filled with construction for new solar and wind projects and not more dirty coal plant pollution.
Send a message to DEEP Commissioner Dan Esty, demanding public hearings on the future of the coal plant.
The Bridgeport plant is one of the most harmful coal-fired power plants in the nation. Pollution from the plant disproportionately affects low income communities and people of color. In 2011, Bridgeport was rated 8th worst environmental justice offender out of 431 coal plants across the country.1
It's time for the communities around Bridgeport and all of Connecticut to have a say in the future of our health and energy needs.
Tell Commissioner Esty to schedule a public hearing on the Bridgeport coal plant so our voices for clean energy and public health can be heard!
Together we can put Connecticut's dirty coal-fired power plants in the dustbin of history -- where they belong -- and empower a prosperous and healthy clean energy future for Connecticut!
