The Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, on the tip of the Alaska peninsula, is a beautiful and wild landscape that ishome to endangered species like sea otters, eiders, and Stellar sea lions. But the federal government is considering a reckless proposal to build a road through this wildlife refuge. The road would endanger this wild place and its wildlife by putting more stress on habitat that's already experiencing the accelerating effects of climate change.

Tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that Izembek needs to be preserved.

Last week the Sierra Club joined the Moapa Band of Paiutes for a march against the dirty Reid Gardner coal-fired power plant in southern Nevada.

The coal plant is next to the Moapa's lands, and its pollution causes numerous health problems.

Congratulations to Sierra Club Louisiana organizer Darryl Malek-Wiley! He just won the "Green Giant Award" from the Green Project of New Orleans. The award goes to Darryl in recognition of his decades of work to improve the environment in New Orleans.

Meanwhile, Darryl keeps doing his amazing work. He and a group of volunteers just held a tree planting in Bayou Bienvenue, where they planted 250 cypress trees and transplanted wetland grasses.

Sierra Club North Carolina is doing great work for clean energy. More than 150 people showed up for the chapter's recent "First in Flight, First in Wind" educational forum.

Then last week they held a "Windmills Not Oil Spills" rally before two public hearings on offshore drilling.
