1) Wednesday: We Get Heard
On Wednesday, May 9th, at 1pm in the House Finance Committee, the Public Transit Investment Act (H7581) will have its hearing. We've been waiting for this moment for a long time, and we're ready. The RIPTA Board has taken the extraordinary step of endorsing the bill. Seven RI communities have passed resolutions in support of it. We have piles of written testimony and a great line up of speakers to support it at the hearing. Most importantly, we have massive public support, represented by over 5000 petition signatures, and hopefully by public turnout. Can you make it? Here's the event page.

2) The Petition's Final Push
Before we get to Wednesday, there are still a couple of days left to get more signatures on the Save RIPTA petition. Please take a second today to share it on your facebook wall or send it to a couple of your email contacts. Of course, if you haven't signed it yet, don't wait another minute!

3) A Finance Perspective on Shale Gas
There has been a lot in the news lately regarding the bright future of natural gas, or alternatively the pernicious environmental effects of the hydrofracking drilling practices that make such a future feasible. Certainly, the environmental impacts are alarming. What if the hype isn't justified though. We might need to seriously rethink what part natural gas will play in our future energy strategies. Here is a really interesting take on the issue from a finance perspective that raises major questions about the sustainability of the natural gas boom.
