Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) RIPTA Riders Alliance
2) It's Barbecue Time
3) Volunteer!
1) RIPTA Riders Alliance
|
After a year of constant organizing which yielded numerous rallies and thousands of petition signatures, the RIPTA Riders group is taking the next organizational step and incorporating as a non-profit advocacy group, the RIPTA Riders Alliance. Now, we can rest assured that transit riders will always have a voice. I could not be prouder of all the grassroots activists who have made this happen, and I look forward to future collaboration between Sierra Club and the new group. Unfortunately, it may not be long before we have to turn people out in force for service cut hearings. More to come...

2) It's Barbecue Time
|
Summer is here (well technically it's a few days away), and that means it's time to break out the grills and enjoy the company of friends outdoors in beautiful weather. The Rhode Island Chapter is getting into the swing of things with its first ever Eco-BBQ, which will be coordinated with our June Outing in Lincoln Woods Park. On the 30th, the hike will begin at 11:30. The barbecue will kick off around 1pm at site #35 near the lake. It will be pot luck style with an emphasis on local/seasonal foods. Please let us know what you intend to bring at outings@risierraclub.org. Thanks, please let us know you're coming with an email or by RSVPing on the Facebook event page.

3) Volunteer!
|
You probably haven't noticed, but it's an election year. Of course, Sierra Club is one of the few environmental groups that gets active electorally, but we can only do it if we have the volunteers to make it happen. So, we're looking for a few brave souls to take the reins of the political committee and guide environmentally important races to victory. Are you interested? Sign up to volunteer using this form.
