The Lacey Act has stood for over 100 years as a protection for nature both in the U.S. and abroad. By prohibiting trade in illegally harvested timber, the Lacey Act has helped reduce deforestation and support U.S. jobs. Unfortunately, some in Congress are trying to advance a bill that would gut the core components of the Lacey Act, thereby threatening our forests and our jobs.

Tell your representative to addressing illegal logging and oppose the RELIEF Act, H.R. 3210.

The San Diego Inner City Outings group (a program of the Sierra Club's Mission Outdoors) took a group of kids to Joshua Tree National Park recently, and news outlet KPBS followed along.

"We take out kids who live twenty blocks from the ocean and have never been to the beach before," said Allan Fein, who founded the San Diego group in 1999.

Last week the Michigan Sierra Club, as part of a coalition, helped deliver more than 530,000 signatures to the Michigan secretary of state to get a "25 percent by 2025" renewable portfolio standard on the November ballot.

Supported by a broad coalition of environmental, clean energy, and progressive organizations, the ballot initiative would make Michigan a powerhouse for clean and renewable energy, while creating nearly 60,000 jobs and spurring billions of dollars of investment in the state.
