In the coming months, Southern Company will announce that they are retiring and fuel switching about a third of their coal fleet, according to what they've been telling investors on their quarterly earnings calls.

J. Henry Fair "Industrial Scars" Tour & Talk
The Georgia Chapter has partnered with GreenLaw to present photographer J. Henry Fair discussion of the photographs displayed in his exhibition “Industrial Scars”. Fair uses his photographs to raise public awareness of the damage being done to the earth due to the detritus of our consumer society. Mr. Fair explains, "At first I photographed "ugly" things; which is, in essence, throwing the issue in people's faces," Fair said. "Over time, I began to photograph all these things with an eye to making them both beautiful and frightening simultaneously."

August 31 – Wind Works for Jobs Rally on Tybee Beach
To Kick-Off the Labor Day weekend this year, the Georgia Chapter and the Beyond Coal campaign are partnering with local elected officials, area manufacturers for a Wind Works rally from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. We'll be there to educate residents of Savannah and Tybee Island about the benefits of Wind Energy, to make a public call for Governor Deal to join the Department of Interior's "Smart From the Start" program that will kick-start Georgia's offshore wind energy development, and to have a great time on the beach enjoying live music, photo-booths, kite-flying, and pro-wind jobs speeches from some of our coastal elected officials.
September 8 – Partnership for Southern Equity Transportation Forum
Does MARTA matter? What is a balanced transportation vision for metropolitan Atlanta? What about jobs? Who is responsible for creating our local, regional and statewide transportation plans?
