Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) An Election Day Worth Celebrating
2) Planning Ahead: the Annual Retreat is Sunday!
3) Converging on Solutions
1) An Election Day Worth Celebrating
|
The Chapter is happy to report that its endorsed candidates won in a clean sweep. From the Federal level, to the State, and even to conservation and clean water bond issues, we were victorious. While we can take heart in these results, they do not automatically translate into a rebirth of environmental issues as priorities. In fact, now that we have our champions in office, it is incumbent on us to hold them to their principles. It is particularly concerning that so little attention was given to global warming in the Presidential race and that Congressman Langevin may have let slip the intention of the Democratic Party to let the Keystone XL Pipeline go through when he said he would support it in his primary debate. We must be vigilant.
In the meantime although the election has passed, please fill out this short survey put together to help the Burrillville Land Trust understand the concerns of voters.

2) Planning Ahead: the Annual Retreat is Sunday!
|
Speaking of remaining vigilant, we are holding our annual retreat this Sunday at the Kettle Pond Refuge Center in Charlestown (50 Bend Road 02813). This is our yearly opportunity to review our successes and failures and plan for how to be more effective in the coming year. We have a lot to be proud of and even more to look forward to. Please join us from 10am-3pm and a hike afterwards. RSVP here so that we can plan accordingly.

3) Converging on Solutions
|
In recent years it seems as though the environmental movement has always been playing defense, just trying to make sure the worst doesn't come to pass. Now it's time to turn the tables and go on offense. This weekend activists from around New England will be converging on Boston for a two day conference on building and putting into action campaigns to fight the industries that are driving global warming. If you make it for the day of workshops and breakout sessions on Saturday, you can come back and share your accumulated knowledge at our retreat on Sunday! Can you make it?
