Who do you think has a right to the Susquehanna River -- millions of people like you who depend on this river system for drinking water, jobs, and recreation, or the natural gas industry? Right now, that is up for debate.

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) will soon set new rules for river use -- but the natural gas industry wants them to put private profit ahead of clean water. This is our opportunity to let them know that the people of New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania come before the fracking industry. Since your governor appoints a representative on the commission, he can tell them how to vote. It's up to us to make sure our governors know that we won't stand for polluted water, and neither should they!
Send your letter -- tell your governor to protect the Susquehanna River Basin from fracking!
Unfortunately, the natural gas industry believes the best use of our water is for fracking. As more and more fracking takes place, the SRBC continues to say yes to each request to use water from the Susquehanna River Basin for drilling. However, this is putting the Susquehanna River, its tributaries, and even the Chesapeake Bay at risk. This commission needs to come up with a long-term plan for how our water will be protected instead of giving it away one request at a time.
Will you tell your governor that we want a comprehensive study of how fracking will impact our rivers before more water-withdrawal requests are approved?
The SRBC meets in a few weeks, and this is our opportunity to make sure the Susquehanna River Basin will be protected. Let's flood our governors' offices with letters so the natural gas lobbyists aren't the only voices in the room.
Thanks for all that you do for the environment,
Director, Beyond Natural Gas Campaign
