Take Action: Thank Secretary Salazar for Protecting Marine Wilderness!
Last week, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that the Drakes Estero in the Point Reyes National Seashore will finally be protected as wilderness as intended by legislation passed in 1976. The decision will firmly protect the only marine wilderness areas on the West Coast. Please send a note thanking Secretary Salazar for standing up for wilderness and choosing to protect this national treasure. Time to Hang Out: A Google+ Hangout About Veterans This Friday, December 7 -- Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day -- join Sierra Club Mission Outdoors Director Stacy Bare, Executive Director Michael Brune, and craigslist founder Craig Newmark for a Google+ Hangout. The three will be there to discuss veterans, the outdoors, and technology. Join them at 1pm PT / 4pm ET on the Sierra Club Google+ page. Grassroots Activism: Singing for Legislation Sierra Club Michigan activists wants strong transit legislation so badly that they stood on the capitol steps in Lansing last week and sang about it. Check out the news article and video. While that's very creative, it probably won't get them very far on American Idol this coming season. Grassroots Activism: Beyond Coal Indianapolis Launches Last Wednesday more than 50 citizens and activists from Indiana gathered in downtown Indianapolis to officially launch the new Indianapolis Beyond Coal campaign. At the launch event, activists delivered 2,000 petitions to Indianapolis Power and Light demanding it retire the dirty Harding Street coal-fired power plant.
