Sierra Club: McConnell’s
Self-Filibuster Makes Need for Reform Clear
(Washington,
DC) – Yesterday, Senate Minority Leader
Mitch McConnell continued his long history of using existing Senate rules to
obstruct the legislative process when he actually filibustered
his own legislation on the Senate floor.
Today, Sierra Club
Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement in response:
“The chief opponent of filibuster reform has
now made the best case for why we need to fix the Senate now. Mitch McConnell’s
ridiculous self-filibuster is just the latest example of how current rules have
turned the Senate into a theater of the absurd rather than a place where our
nation’s most pressing problems – from the fiscal showdown to the climate
crisis – can be solved.”
The Sierra Club is a member of the Fix the
Senate coalition and working to support the Senate’s adoption of substantial
rules reforms.
