EMG will have a table with information and merchandise. If you are interested in volunteering at our table,
please send an email to Sarah Merida. While you are at the Festival, be sure to stop by for a refreshing
glass of Sierra Club fresh-squeezed lemonade!
Remember to bring your appliances and electronics for recycling to St. Louis Community College at Forest Park that day.
Date Set for Annual Trivia Night
The EMG annual Trivia Night will be Saturday, November 16. Save the date and plan to attend. If you are interested in helping with this year's event, please email Sarah Merida to learn more. We are looking for a few volunteers to help with planning the event.
Leadership Opportunities
If you are interested in taking on a leadership role within the Eastern Missouri Group, many opportunities are available. Even if you only have a small amount of time to commit, there may be a good opportunity for you. Call Sarah Merida at 660-988-1412 or email her for more information.
National Trails Day
On Saturday, the first of June we will again celebrate National
Trails Day at Hawn State Park. We will need volunteers to greet visitors at our table and
lead hikes. There are plenty of trails to hike
and we hope to explore the LaMotte Sandstone Barrens Natural Area. Free
camping Friday night and Saturday. For more information contact: Paul Stupperich @ 314-429-4352 or Bob Gestel @ 636-296-8975. Or visit our EMG Events and Activities webpage.
Spring Wildflower Market
On Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shaw Nature Reserve and several nurseries from throughout the area will offer hundreds of varieties of annual and perennial wildflowers, ferns, trees and shrubs to use in home landscaping and to attract wildlife. Visit the website for details.
Native plants belong in your yard because they conserve soil and water and they don't need fertilizers or pesticides. They support a diversity of pollinators and wildlife through improved habitat and reduce long-term maintenance. They are winter-hardy, drought-tolerant and are less prone to destructive insects and diseases.
Come to Jefferson City to Lobby for Our Environment
This year we have four Sierra Club Lobby Days, where we go to Jefferson City to talk with legislators to advocate for our environment. We have already gone three times, with over sixty Sierrans participating. It is interesting, educational and effective. Our last Lobby Day this year will be Wednesday, May 1. If you are interested in going or just learning more, you can use the links in this message, you can write Michael Berg or you can call our office at 314-644-1011.
Sierra Club Coal Campaign
Last month approximately 60 people attended the Oakville Community Forum about the Meramec Coal Plant. Everyone signed petitions and then took this pic to send to the White House calling for clean energy. |
Beyond Coal Petition Delivery Event on April 24th 10:30 am. Meet at the corner of Mississippi Ave and Chouteau Ave. Look for an official email invite in the coming days or contact Sara Edgar at (314) 497-8757 if you are interested in being involved or have questions.
