Dear
Fellow Sierran

1) Transit Bill Hearing: Statehouse Outing #3
|
Tomorrow at 1pm in the House Finance Committee (room 35), the Public Transit Investment Act will be heard. With cuts in service upwards of 25% possible if nothing is done to shore up RIPTA's finances, this bill and its hearing are critical for both the environment and the economy. Please consider coming to the Statehouse tomorrow to show your support. It also happens to be Earth Day Lobby Day, so you can have a full day of environmental activism on Smith Hill. I hope to see you there!

2) Rally For RIPTA, Thursday!
|
Since you might not be free tomorrow for the hearing, we're making it really easy for you to come out and voice your support for transit this week by holding a rally at the Statehouse, too (in the rotunda at 3:30). In what is a very auspicious sign, the Speaker of the House Gordon Fox is going to speak at the rally, along with a number of other policy makers and advocates. Please come and invite your friends. Let's make this big and put RIPTA right!

3) In Defense of Deepwater Wind
|
It's been a long time coming but the potential for Rhode Island to be the first state with an offshore wind installation is visible on the horizon. Last week, DEM convened another public hearing in Narragansett to gather further input from the public regarding the demonstration scale project (5 turbines for 30 megawatts of power). After carefully weighing the impacts of this project and the larger one to follow, the Chapter is fully endorsing them, and we showed up last week to make it known. You can see some of my testimony here and volunteer activist David Maar's here.
