A Chick Flick with Real Legs
 Who wasn't saddened to read about the passing of Alex, the African Gray Parrot whose vocabulary and emotional development rivaled that of some politicians? Unfortunately, not all birds are quite that bright. Take Fowlie, the fine-feathered star of Mark Fiore's new animation "Cockle Doodle Doo Doo."

The Deadliest Item at Your Grocery Store?
 Somewhere in the northern Pacific floats a non-biodegradable petrochemical blob that's twice the size of Texas. Much of this deadly mess originated when someone innocently took home their shopping in a plastic bag.
In the U.S. alone, we throw away 100 billion plastic bags each year -- the equivalent of 12 million barrels of oil. Yikes!

Protect Your National Forests
 There they go again. The Bush administration is continuing its efforts to dismantle the regulatory protections that have governed the National Forest System for the past 25 years. If they succeed, it will put wildlife and habitat at risk, favor logging, and eliminate meaningful public participation in local forest planning.
The effect will be to make the national forests far more vulnerable to environmentally destructive logging and other harmful activities. And animals like the endangered grizzly bears that rely on those habitats will find themselves without a home.
Let's tell Forest Service Chief Abigail Kimbell that this bad idea is a non-starter with the American public.

Stunning Victory Over Automakers
 In an important legal victory for the Sierra Club and its allies, a federal district court judge has ruled that New York and Vermont may enact the California Clean Car (Pavley) Standards, pending EPA approval. These standards, adopted by California and at least 11 other states, will reduce global warming emissions from cars by 30 percent when fully implemented in 2016.
The victory marks a watershed moment in the legal battle over the California standards and will undoubtedly have an important impact on similar cases pending in California and Rhode Island.
