As our volunteers advocated for the outdoors in person, we made sure there were opportunities for our supporters to participate in Great Outdoors America Week online. We worked with Modern Family star and Sierra Club Youth Ambassador, Nolan Gould to send an action alert in support of the Community Parks Revitalization Act. Take Action. |

Secretary Jewell Joins OAK for a Youth and the Outdoors Festival on the National Mall
Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell spent Wednesday afternoon walking, talking and having fun with local youth at the "Kids, Youth and the Great Outdoors Festival and Walk on the National Mall." Part of Great Outdoors America Week, Secretary Jewell was joined by White House Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality Nancy Sutley, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jo-Ellen Darcy, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune, The Wilderness Society President Jaime Williams, and members of the Outdoors Alliance for Kids. |

Connecting Military Families with the Great Outdoors
We hosted a panel for congressional staffers discussing the importance of the military community and the outdoors. The military community has had a significant impact in both the outdoor industry as well as in both the conservation movement and environmentally related national defense issues. The panel featured Major General James A. Kessler, Stacy Bare, Army Veteran and Director of Sierra Club Mission Outdoors, Marine Corps Colonel Broughton, Marine Corps installation Command, Sheri Robey-Lapan, Blue Star Families, Mike Christian, Marine Corps Veteran and Director of Outdoor Research Government Program, and Joshua Brandon, Army Veteran and Sierra Club Military Outdoors Organizer. Senator Patty Murray and Senator Bill Nelson were both honored for their work to protect public lands and connect veterans with the outdoors at the Great Outdoors America Week Award Reception. |
