Dear
Fellow Sierran

3) Cocktails and Climate Change
1) Shutting Down Brayton Point
|
On July 28th hundreds of protesters are going to demonstrate for the closure of Brayton Point, the biggest emitter of carbon pollution in the Northeast. Some of them will be arrested as part of a civil disobedience component of the protest that is part of 350.org's Summer Heat campaign. You can find information here on how you can be a part of the day's activities. Will you be there? I theorized on Huffington Post that the escalation of the environmental movement may well lead to protests similar to what we've seen in Turkey recently. We'll see.

2) $hift Investments Away From Fossil Fuels
|
Why divest? Some argue that divestment isn't an effective tactic in the fight against climate change. To those people, I say watch this powerful short film that emerged out of the successful campaign to get San Francisco State University to divest. Please share it with your skeptical friends. Then ask them to SIGN the petitions for RI Divestment and URI, RIC and CCRI Divestment.

3) Cocktails and Climate Change
|
After a long extremely hot week, what could be better than to enjoy some cold refreshments as you hang over the beach at the famous Ocean Mist bar? How about if at the same time you got to see a great line-up of speakers headlined by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse talk about the efforts to battle global warming. Well, that's exactly the opportunity you'll have this Friday (July 19th) from 2-4pm. The Ocean Mist is located in Matunuck (895 Matunuck Beach Rd. 02879). You'll also have the chance to put your personalized message on a banner that will be heading down to Washington to urge federal action on the issue. If you have any questions, please contact Kate Coyne-McCoy at 401-578-0210. I hope to see you there!
