Mount Vernon Group Executive Committee Election:
Call for Candidates
The Mount Vernon Group is one of thirteen local Sierra Club groups within the Virginia Chapter of the Club. Like other local groups, the MVG is governed by an entirely volunteer leadership group, its Executive Committee or "ExCom."
There are nine positions on the ExCom and each year some number of these spots come up for election.
ExCom members meet regularly--usually about every six weeks--to set the Group's priorities for the coming year, manage the Group's budget, and develop new ways to collaborate with other local environmental organizations and engage new volunteers. The ExCom also votes on political endorsements in local government elections and develops official position statements on local environmental issues.
If you're a member of the Mount Vernon Group and you're interested in becoming a member of the ExCom, you should prepare a brief candidate statement (no more than 200 words) and send it to Rick Keller by October 15, 2013. Candidate statements and a ballot will be included in the next edition of the newsletter, which will be published in early December.
The Mount Vernon Sierran is published quarterly by the Mount Vernon Group of the Sierra Club's Virginia Chapter. Content contained in the newsletter expresses the opinions of the authors and does not necessarily reflect any official Group position or campaign. Questions or comments? Email Mary Kadera, the newsletter editor, at Mount.Vernon.Group@sierraclub.org.
