Pollution, Parks, Public Health, and the Navajo Generating Station Join us for a workshop on the Navajo Generating Station
The 2,250-megawatt NGS is the largest and dirtiest coal plant in the state. It pollutes the skies over Grand Canyon and other national parks and wilderness areas, plus people who live nearby suffer from pollution blown from the stacks, which can trigger asthma attacks and contribute to other breathing problems. We have an opportunity to promote clean-up and transition of the facility. Learn why people across the state should care about this and what you can do to help with this important effort to move from coal to clean energy. For more information, please contact Jon Findley at (480) 756-2916 or nrgarizona@gmail.com or Sandy Bahr at (602) 253-8633 or sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org. |

Mark your calendars The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking public comment on proposals to reduce haze-forming pollutants, particularly nitrogen oxide emissions, from Navajo Generating Station. Sierra Club wants to make sure the plant reduces its unhealthful pollutants. We are asking that the plant operators simply comply with EPA’s proposed rule or opt for a combination of retirement and retrofits that would meet the same or greater reductions. Please mark your calendars for these important public hearings!

Net metering is a mechanism that allows residents with solar on their rooftops to receive fair market compensation for excess energy generated that is sent back into the grid. Unfortunately, Arizona Public Service (APS) wants to change this in order to increase its profits. The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) staff recently recommended that the ACC reject the APS proposals and instead consider net metering changes as part of the next APS rate case in 2016. However, as these are just recommendations, the ACC may still consider and vote on this issue at its November Open Meetings (11/13 and 11/14). Please speak up for solar! Encourage the ACC to reject the APS proposals to eliminate or weaken net metering For more information, please contact Sandy Bahr at (602) 253-8633 or sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org. |

National Plug In Day was a huge success with hundreds of people in Phoenix and Tucson coming out to see and drive plug-in vehicles. National Plug In Day is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and to highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrids. Read about and view photos of the Tucson event online. |

Energy Tip O' the Day Do you have a second refrigerator or freezer in your home? Do you really need it? If so, do you need it year-round? By only using one refrigerator or freezer – or by only using your second one when needed – you can save $120 or more (depending on the unit) a year. |
