1) Brown Stays Invested in Coal
On Friday, I was at Brown University to participate in the Brown Coal Divest Campaign's final action to push for the university's endowment to divest from the 15 filthiest coal companies. We marched and listened to passionate speeches, and then we held silent vigil outside the meeting room where the Brown Corporate Board was making its decision. I was confident that the Board would listen to the community it supposedly represents. Alas, my sense of confidence proved false, as yesterday we received word that the Board (including the five members attached to Big Coal) had voted to remain invested in this dangerous industry. You can read the rationale for the decision here and the student rebuttal for the decision here.

2) QUAHOG BLOG: The Hole We've Dug
RI Sierra Club volunteer activist Pete Galvin, who helped mightily in organizing the bus trip to Washington DC back in February, has started blogging for the Chapter, and you shouldn't miss what he has to say. Please READ this informative and compelling post about where we are and where we're going in the battle for climate justice.

3) WEDNESDAY: Permaculture Lecture at URI
It's no secret that suburban sprawl has contributed to our unsustainable culture. What if there were a way to restore sanity to this broken development model? Permaculture holds that promise, and Jan Spencer, a leader in the field, is coming to URI to present on his experience of turning a quarter acre of suburbia into an ecologically complete and productive landscape. The presentation is called Transforming Where We Live- Our Homes, Culture, and Economy, and you can RSVP here. Please invite your friends. It'll be taking place at 4pm on Wednesday in Edwards Auditorium at URI. Hope to see you there!

4) Fossil Free RI Non-Violence Training
A little farther down the road, block off the weekend of November 16th and 17th for Fossil Free RI's two day Kingian Nonviolence Training. It's going to be put on at the Providence College Annex, and you can RSVP and invite your friends on the Facebook event page. To take part, you need to register, and you can do that here. Registration is $65, but there is a sliding scale for those who can't afford the full fee.
