1) Providence Updates Its Cycling Master Plan
Did you even know that Providence has a Bicycling Master Plan? Indeed, it's been around for a while, and it's upgrade was just released last week. It's open for public comment, which you can submit on this Facebook page after you've read it (or not). Here's one take on it from James Kennedy, writing for ecoRI.org.

2) The Invisible Bike Helmet
One thing that makes biking unappealing to some folks is the need for clunky bike helmets. Some innovative women in Sweden have come up with a very interesting solution. Make it invisible. Well, not actually. In truth, they've created an air bag that pops out of a fashionable scarf-like neck wrap which makes helmets obsolete. Check it out!

3) A Smart Wheel
Futuristic head protection goes great with futuristic bike propulsion, and while electric powered cycles have been around in one form or another for a long time, a group of folks in New York City has a new invention called the FlyKly. It's an individualized motorized "smart wheel" capable of communicating with a phone to give the added boost that might make bike commuting the best possible transportation choice. 4) Road Audit Outing: A Bikeability Tool
So the future of biking is looking bright, but we can obviously still do better. If you're interested in improving the bikeability of your community, the Chapter can help by organizing a road audit outing to help inform the planning process for upcoming road projects. For a better feel for what it would look like, please check out this short educational video we produced. If you'd like to organize one, contact me, Abel Collins. Thanks!
